The ABC affiliate is all-in with an idea to get Seattleites tweeting about the reality show’s premier. It’s something they hope will create buzz and in turn, ratings.

Nielsen: Websites Can Increase Station Reach
Nielsen research indicates that stations can use their Web sites to notably expand reach of their news content, helping drive cross-platform sales. The data, which looked at the ABC affiliates in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, shows that by using one metric, each received at least a 3% bump in the 25-to-54 demo in the May 2011 sweeps period.
The group’s KOMO (ABC) and KUNS (Univision) is using studio cameras, MVS-7000 switcher and ELC automation to tackle the increasing complexity of news production and streamline the stations’ workflow operations.
The broadcaster is partnering with the Web content management firm to monetize desktop and mobile video and live streamed content.

KOMO Sues Police Over Public Records
Fisher Communications’ ABC affiliate has filed a lawsuit against the Seattle Police Department because the station believes the department is breaking state public records law. For more than a year, KOMO’s Problem Solver investigators have been fighting for access to the department’s database of dashcam videos. The lawsuit, filed in King County Superior Court, contends the police department has intentionally and illegally stonewalled the Problem Solvers over and over again.
The Fisher-owned ABC affiliate will team with hyperlocal blogs the Rainier Valley Post and Beacon Hill Blog to enhance local coverage for Southeast Seattle.
The new lifestyle website is aimed at 18-49ers on a variety of topics designed to complement Fisher’s KOMOnews.com. The company plans to roll out more Pulp sites, with PortlandPulp slated for later this summer.
