Right This Minute, the Monday-Friday video clip show that station groups Cox Media, Raycom and Scripps created in partnership with MagicDust Television, celebrated its 1,000th episode last Friday. The show is distributed by MGM Television and will begin its third season this fall. It will add a new weekend best-of episode on stations including NBC-owned WNBC New York and ABC O&O KABC Los Angeles. The show tapes in Phoenix and is co-hosted by (l-r) Gayle Bass, Nick Calderone, Beth Troutman, Christian Vera and Steven Fabian.

Couric Unhappy Over ‘Gossipy’ New Direction
A source say Katie Couric’s syndicated daytime show will be “gossip-centric” in its second season, since a behind-the-scenes shakeup replaced executive producer Michael Morrison with The Tyra Banks Show executive producer Rachel Miskowiec. “If there is one thing Katie hates more than being called ‘perky,’ it’s being called ‘tabloid,’ ” the source says. “She thinks of herself as a serious journalist, covering stories that make a difference. She’s fighting this.”
The syndicated video clip show from MGM will now be seen in Washington, Minneapolis, Sacramento, St. Louis, Grand Rapids, Greensboro and Portland and Bangor, both Maine.

Here’s a rundown of some of the promotional spots syndicators are providing their station partners to ramp up interest heading into the upcoming television season.
Having indentified 15 million unsure individuals whom they felt they could persuade to vote for Obama, the president’s winning campaign used Rentrak set-top box data to determine what shows they were watching and then targeted them with TV spots.Good news for broadcasters is that two of the top shows to buy were syndication’s The Insider and Judge Joe Brown. Bad news is that many of the shows were on cable. Obama ran nearly twice as many cable ads as Romney on more than twice as many channels, 100, and spent 35% less per spot. The brains behind the “optimizer” media strategy are now hoping to cash in in the commercial realm.

Television’s major syndicators will meet next week with TV station creative services directors at the third annual PromaxBDA Station Summit, sharing promotional plans and trying to whip up some of that enthusiasm for their new offerings including CBS Television Distribution’s Arsenio Hall and Bethenny from Warner Bros.
This Is No Time To Take The Weekends Off
On Saturday and Sundays, many TV stations are sticking to the script of network sports, news and public affairs, repeats of weekday programs and paid programming — way too much paid programming. It isn’t offering anything to viewers or long-term prospects. But if you’re smart, you can use weekends to broaden appeal and differentiate yourself from the pack.
The panel talk show from Telepictures will get a four-week tryout on seven Fox O&Os beginning July 15.
The freshman talk hit, which was already renewed for its second season in national syndication earlier this year, has now been extended for additional seasons through 2016 with station group renewals led by the NBC Owned Television Stations.
Hearst’s stations are the latest to reup the daytime talker from Sony Pictures Television, extending its run through the 2016-17 season.
Director Joseph Terry and co-executive producers Kathy Samuels and Ethan Nelson depart the rookie talker.
“The Wendy Williams Show has as much momentum as any show on our air right now, both qualitatively and quantitatively,” said Frank Cicha, SVP of programming for the Fox Television Stations. “Over the last few years, it’s evolved into the ideal lead-out to our morning news blocks.”
Kris, a new daily, one-hour entertainment talk show hosted by television personality, entrepreneur, author, and mother of six, Kris Jenner, begins a six-week preview on July 15, on Fox O&Os in markets that include New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis and Phoenix. The program, produced by Twentieth Television, will feature celebrity guests, fashion and beauty trends plus a mix of lifestyle topics.
The syndicated panel show will air this summer and will feature co hosts Tamar Braxton, Adrienne Bailon, Adrienne Bailon and Loni Love.
The Cox Media ABC affiliate will replace Dr. Oz with a half-hour newscast anchored by Bob Opsahl and Martie Salt followed by the syndicated Family Feud.
E! has picked up syndicated entertainment news show Access Hollywood Live. Hosted by Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, the Access Hollywood daytime spinoff will begin airing daily starting June 10 on the cable channel at 3 p.m. ET.
