Starting noon Monday, Aug. 24, you’ll notice some changes in the tone and style of the WOIO Cleveland newscasts. The station is saying a formal farewell to the wild and woolly 19 Action News format, rebranding its news operation Cleveland 19 News. The Raycom-owned CBS affiliate has been moving away from the raucous 19 Action News approach for a couple of years, but the station’s new executives felt it was time to accelerate the process.

Media General’s Buffalo, N.Y., CBS affiliate has let go sports director and weekday sports anchor Steve Vesey, who had worked there for three years. The move comes a few weeks after weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter Lauren Brill left for a new job as a sports reporter at a Cleveland station. It also is only three nights before the Buffalo Bills have their preseason opener.

NBC-owned KXAS Dallas and the Dallas Morning News are the winners of RTDNA’s 2015 Gannett Foundation Al Neuharth Award for Investigative Journalism. The two won for their Injured Heroes, Broken Promises series of stories that focused on the treatment of soldiers by the Army’s Warrior Transition Units, designed to help service members who have suffered physical and psychological wounds adjust to civilian life.
