News has escaped out of the TV newscast box for creative broadcasters, and four of them will share how they’ve built dynamic alternatives for topical content in a panel, Beyond Newscasts: Meeting Programming Needs with Newsy Content, at TVNewsCheck’s Programming Everywhere conference at the NAB Show on April 14 in Las Vegas.

Adrienne Roark, president, content development and integration, CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures; Steve Pruett, executive chairman, Cox Media Group; Michael Gruzuk, head of CBC News Studios, national director, development and production, CBC; and Jeremy Berg, director of digital video, NBCUniversal Local, will join Michael Depp, chief content officer, NewsCheckMedia and editor, TVNewsCheck, for the 3 p.m. discussion.

“For years, broadcasters’ go-to solution to inexpensively fill an empty timeslot has been to launch yet another newscast, a move that can easily saturate the market and bore viewers,” Depp said. “Adrienne, Steve, Michael and Jeremy will discuss the inventive programming they’ve devised to veer away from the shopworn newscast format and towards more dynamic, multiplatform ways of presenting news content.”

Programming Everywhere convenes programming executives, leaders in news, digital and streaming, technologists, talent and content creators from across multiple media to catalyze new thinking for TV’s future. Other panels include:

  • Programming Leaders on Ideas Beyond Boundaries
  • Reimagining Game Shows for a Multiplatform World
  • Building the Next Gen Talk Show
  • Social Media / Streaming Stars on Growing Niches Into Audiences
  • Using AI as a Creative Content Tool
