Most report week-over-week gains in the session ending Jan. 4. Mixed results for most of the other genres.

Preemptions, holiday activities deliver a lump of coal for most shows in the week ending Dec. 28. A few first-run bright spots included Live with Kelly & Michael, Rachael Ray and Divorce Court.

In the week ending Dec. 21, Wendy Williams,  Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Phil, Live with Kelly & Michael, Steve Harvey and Steve Wilkos are among the chat fests up from the same week a year earlier.

All of the chat fests were either up or flat in the week ending Dec. 14, with Jerry Springer getting the biggest gift, a bounce of 18% from the previous week.

While magazines had a good week post-sweep first week, talkers were not as lucky. But the top three game shows all posted double-digit gains from the week before.

First-run shows posting household ratings gains from November 2013 include Dr. Phil, Live with Kelly & Michael, Wendy Williams, Steve Wilkos, Right This Minute, Paternity Court, Inside Edition, Dish Nation, Jeopardy and Family Feud. Rookie shows that improved upon their premiere week numbers included Hot Bench and Celebrity Name Game.

Coverage of the unfolding scandal delivers season high numbers to several mags in the week ending Nov. 23. The frame’s No. 1 first-run spot is shared by Judge Judy and Wheel of Fortune with 7.5 household ratings.

Seven of the genre’s entries posted gains from the previous week in the frame ending Nov. 16. Other strong categories at the sweep’s halfway point included courtrooms and games.

Magazines do well, as do some talkers (Dr. Phil, Steve Wilkos and Jerry Springer), Judge Judy, Internet video show Right This Minute, games Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire plus many off-net sitcoms.

Seven veteran talkers post weekly increases in the week ending Nov. 2 as does freshman Meredith Vieira. Other genres with a good week included most game shows, three magazines, and some courtrooms.

Live with Kelly & Michael and Dr. Oz were the only major week-to-week gainers in the genre, which was hit with multiple disruptions in the week ending Oct. 26.

Just about all of the chat fests were up or flat in the week ending Oct. 19. Among the double-digit gainers in other first-run categories were Dish Nation (+22%) and Judge Faith (+14%).

The show leads all freshman series. Some of the other newcomers post week-to-week gains while many returning shows are flat to down in the week ending Oct. 12.

There were multiple first-run syndicated shows posting week-to-week improvements in the week ending Oct. 5, but three stood out: Wendy Williams and Family Feud, which each gained 14%, and The Real, which climbed 11%.

Other syndicated entries up from a week earlier include a number of talkers, two magazines, Paternity Court, Right This Minute and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Courts, games, talkers post strong ratings in the first week of their new seasons.

Dr. Phil, which has been the highest-rated talk show every year since Oprah left syndication in 2011, kicked off its 13^th season and easily topped all talk rivals. Judge Judy again rules the court genre and first-run overall. ET powers the magazines, while Wheel is the gamest.

The Labor Day week ending Sept. 7 had a mix of new and repeat episodes. Many talkers were up; courtrooms were all in the plus column; magazines were a mixed bag; while games were either flat or down.

Coverage of the festivities helps the entertainment mags record some viewing gains in the week leading up to the long Labor Day weekend.

The good doctor takes top talk show honors in the week ending Aug. 24 as well as the genre’s No. 1 spot for the 2013-14 season. Judge Judy, however, chalks up its third yearly win as syndication’s top show.

Many of the genre’s shows post double-digit ratings gains in the week ending Aug. 17 covering the news of Robin Williams’ suicide.

Her honor tops all syndie shows, while Wheel rolls back on top in the game genre. Others first-run shows posting weekly gains include most of the court genre, Inside Edition and Access Hollywood.

It pulls ahead of Wheel for only the second time in the last 10 years. Other first-run shows reporting gains in generally slow week include Extra, Steve Wilkos, The Test, Trisha and TMZ.  

Many programs post improved numbers in the week ending July 27, with the gainers spread across genres.

First-run series posting weekly gains in the frame ending July 20 included Dish Nation, Dr. Phil, Jerry Springer, The Test, Trisha and Paternity Court.

Newsmagazines and talkers performed particularly well the week ending July 13, a period during which most syndicated shows made gains. Five of the top six news magazines’ ratings grew from the week before, as did talk shows.

The top-rated talker is one of a handful of syndicated shows to record a ratings rise in the week ending July 6 compared to the previous frame.

Except for the entertainment news shows, most of first run treads water in the week ending June 29, held down by soccer and tennis.

Most first-run shows are flat to down in the week ending June 22. The few exceptions include Steve Harvey, Jerry Springer, Trisha and Family Feud.

The week ending June 15 also saw strong performances from Live with Kelly & Michael, Judge Judy and Wendy Williams.

In the week ending June 8, there weren’t a lot of weekly gains, with lower PUT levels, but a number of shows posted solid increases over this time last year.

One exception was Jeopardy, which crept up 2% from the week before to dethrone Wheel of Fortune as the No. 1 game for the first time in 10 years.

They are the only talk shows to post week-to-week gains in the session ending April 27. In fact, Inside Edition and some off-net series and sitcoms are the only others able to report weekly gains.

The week ending April 13 was not kind to syndication, with almost no first-fun shows reporting week-to-week gains and only a handful up from the prior year. A couple off-net sitcoms and weekly hours did better.
